(AP) Rainier, WA – After being edged 16-12 in the snow on Monday, Coach Andy Bartell and his band of coaches, had their troops ready for a home battle with traditional powerhouse Adna.

Rainier took the opening kickoff and drove down the field to score first on a rain soaked 40 yard touchdown toss from Michael Green to Jacob Uch. The 2 point conversion made it 8-0.

The Mountaineer defense took delight in the pouring rain and stymied the Pirates on each possession. Sean Mahaffy scooped up a fumble and rumbled 15 yards for a defensive touchdown and a botched punt return led to a safety.

Jake Jeske added 62 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.

Green combined 65 yards rushing with 56 yards passing for 121 total yards to lead the team to a convincing 34-6 victory over Adna.

Rainier travels to Montesano on Saturday, February 27th against state runner-up Napavine.
